Primary Lens Luxation (PLL)

Summary: PLL is an eye disease caused from the progressive breakdown of the ligaments supporting the lens of the eye, leading to pain or discomfort around the eyes, cloudiness, and/or vision impairment. This condition can affect one or both eyes and may occur at different times to different degrees. In some cases glaucoma can result from this disease.

Screening: Genetic testing can be done through several DNA companies and the disease tends to act as a simple recessive, however there has been research done that has shown that carriers may be at a (much lower) risk for developing the disease at some point in their life. Other research has indicated there may be other variants not yet discovered for this disease so a CAER exam is recommended in addition to genetic testing to identify the risk of passing the disorder on to puppies.

Inheritance: Not proven
