Myotonia Congenita (MC)

Summary: Myotonia Congenita is a disorder that presents as the sustained contractions of muscles, even after voluntary muscle contraction has ended. This disease tends to start appearing as soon as young puppies become mobile and can be recognized with a stiff gait, bunny hopping, and other similar symptoms. Continued movement and exercise can help to ease symptoms, although worsening symptoms may appear in the cold or after rest.

Screening: Genetic testing is available for this condition and the recessive inheritance can be used as a preventative to avoid producing affected dogs.
